Drivers, couriers, market traders and online sellers get paid in many small platform payments plus cash. MTD asks for digital records of income and expenses by category, and a short quarterly summary. It does not ask for an invoice per payment. This workbook totals your records by HMRC category each quarter so you can check them. Check your start date first, free.

What it is not: a preparation and cross-check template, not HMRC-recognised software and not tax advice. GOV.UK says digital records must be created and stored in software that works with MTD, and quarterly updates sent through it. A spreadsheet only counts when paired with bridging software that supports spreadsheets. Check GOV.UK and your software provider first.

Do I have to raise an invoice for every payment? No. MTD needs digital records of income and expenses; it does not require an invoice per receipt. Put platform payouts and cash in as income rows.
Do I need this if I use accounting software? Not for sending. It helps if you keep records by hand first, or want a second check on the totals.
Landlord with several properties? Log them in the same sheet and use the description column to tell them apart. Categories are the UK property ones.
